How to connect your electronics projects to IFTTT

With Sensate’s IFTTT integration, you can connect your electronics components extremely easily with other products. Use your ESP8266 microcontroller (e.g. on a developer board like the NodeMCU or the WeMos D1) and connect it to IFTTT via the Sensate Platform.

More chips like the ESP32 and various Arduino boards will be supported as well soon!



Visit and log into your account.


Go to and select "+ This"


Search for Sensate and select the Sensate Service.


Choose the trigger that meets your requirements. The trigger defines the event that must occur for the (later defined) action to happen.

If you need a trigger that is not available yet, take a look into our community.


Fill in the input fields as needed.

To generate the required sensor key, open the sensor settings within the Sensate App (by pressing and holding or swipe over the sensor name) and press "Generate API Key".

After all fields have been filled, create the trigger with "Create trigger".


Select "+ That" – this defines what happens when the trigger is triggered.


Choose one of the (almost) unlimited actions IFTTT offers.

In this example, I search for the action "Email" and use it. You can also do other things like turn on/off lights or sockets or send push notifications.

Usually, you have to connect the service to the platform first.


If the selected action is a message, you can now customize the content of the message that is generated.

Then choose "Create action".


Check the created applet and select "Complete" to activate it.
